A southern and midwestern species, the only VT record from 31 May 2006 at Button Bay State Park. Multiple iNat records from around Glen Falls, NY suggest it could be found in southwestern VT.
Identification: Females have very dark wings. Males have massive eyes and a habit of perching in prominent places and flying out at anything that resembles a female bumble bee.
Similar Species: Yellow-banded Bumble Bee (Bombus terricola) and American Bumble Bee (Bombus pensylvanicus)
Global Status: Secure (G5)
