This is a small, rare willow specialist. Its global status has been partially obscured by taxonomic and identification issues. The only recent VT record is from late May on the shore of Lake Champlain.
Identification: Unlikely to be confidently identified from photos, this small species tends to have orangish/red hind tibia and a slight metallic sheen.
Similar Species: Closely related to the Small Willow Miner Bee (Andrena salictaria) which usually has dark hind tibia. Hippotes’s Miner Bee (Andrena hippotes) is a larger spring generalist that often visits willows and has a reddish legs.
