Widespread and often abundant, finding this species usually requires wet feet and/or a boat, though males will occasionally visit other plants for nectar.

Identification: This is a medium-small black bee, with abundant hairs and a long head.

Similar Species: Beebalm Shortface (Dufourea monardae). Additionally, some larger Lasioglossum found in wetlands are also black with noticeable hairs, though not as hairy. The odd head shape of Short-faced Bees is usually readily apparent.
