If a bee could be described as scary, it is this one. First established in the United States during the early 1990s, this introduced species was first documented in Vermont in 2005. While widespread, this species is still uncommon and patchy. Most records are from July.

Identification: The combination of the large size and short orangish hairs on the thorax is distinctive.
