First documented in VT in 2020. This species is so far only known from Windsor County, though violets are widespread and abundant in the state. May have a preference for the blue violet species. Unclear if it is a rare in the state or just overlooked.

 Identification: This is a medium sized Mining Bee with distinct hair bands on the abdomen. The most distinctive feature of this species is the bulging clypeus. About 50% of males have some yellow marks on and/or adjacent to the clypeus.

Similar Species: No other mining bees have a clypeus bulging to the same extent. Bradley’s Mining Bee (Andrena bradleyi) have a long clypeus that extends down, not out.
