Ophiogomphus anomalus (Extra-striped Snaketail)Unknown from Vermont, this northern snaketail with an extra thorax stripe also has narrow, black face lines. Boreal Snaketail (O. colubrinus), worth looking for in Vermont, is the only other to show a black line across the face. With records of Extra-striped Snaketail in New York and Maine, this dragonfly ranks high among species most likely to be added next to Vermont’s ode fauna.

Look for it in July on a variety of clean rivers, particularly in northern Vermont.
