The first state record for this species was reported to the Vermont Atlas of Life on iNaturalist by Kelly Stettner on 23 June 2019 on the Black River in North Springfield and quickly confirmed by Bryan Pfeiffer and others. This species has the widest distribution of any dancer occurring in the United States. It is found from Georgia north to Ontario, Canada; east to Oklahoma and Texas and south through Central America to Argentina. It is found around streams and rivers with a lot of exposure to sun and only moderate amounts of vegetation.
