BlackpollBlackpoll Warbler

BITHBicknell’s Thrush

Potential threats to montane bird species on the breeding grounds include global warming, atmospheric deposition, and development. Habitat loss on the wintering grounds has been a serious conservation concern for Bicknell’s Thrush, but it is not known whether Blackpoll populations face substantial anthropogenic threats during migration or winter.

  • Both Bicknell’s Thrush and Blackpoll Warbler were detected in slightly fewer blocks during the second Atlas, despite increased survey efforts on mountaintops.
  • Data indicate decline in Bicknell’s Thrush in New Hampshire and Canada.
  • Blackpoll Warbler trends mixed but appear stable overall (except in Maritimes and New Brunswick where they are declining).
