Nearly 60 species of mammals are found in Vermont. From the American Pygmy Shrew to the American Moose, Vermont mammals exhibit a diversity of sizes, habits, and habitats. Eight species are listed as Threatened and Endangered by the State of Vermont, five are hibernating bat species that declined due to White-nose Syndrome. Small mammals account for much of the mammal diversity, but there is much more we need to learn.
