The trilling of this common cricket signal a sure sign of summer. They are small black crickets, which you may see scurrying away from your feet as you walk in dry, open grassy areas. They favor lawns, parks, pastures, and roadsides.
Adults generally seen July through frost. When cold weather arrives they often find their way into homes.
