Birder Broker 2021 Update

November 01, 2021

Birder Broker’s second season was a huge success, with 20 birders visiting 23 properties across the state and submitting a complete Vermont eBird checklist with each visit. On these repeated, approximately one-mile loops, Birder Broker volunteers kept track of how many species and individuals they heard and saw, making note of any breeding behaviors observed. Birders Welcomed Beyond No Trespassing Signs

March 10, 2020

It’s energy and enthusiasm like Littauer’s that Bridget Butler (a.k.a. “the bird diva”) is harnessing in citizen-science project Birder Broker. The project matches birders such as Littauer with landowners to help map what bird species are on privately owned land. The birders and landowners walk the land together during breeding season to identify what birds are there. To read more of this article published in The Bridge, click here. »

Celebrating Birder Broker’s Successful First Year

November 25, 2019

As 2019 nears its close, the Birder Broker Team would like to take this time to reflect on our successful pilot year. Twenty-nine landowners and 26 birders participated and created a total of 41 Vermont eBird checklists. Participants who responded to our end-of-season survey shared overwhelmingly positive experiences, leaving us excited for the 2020 season. If you want to read more about Birder Broker's pilot year, visit the Vermont Center for Ecostudies blog. »
