At the eastern edge of its US range, this species is sparsely scattered in Vermont, occurring at eight sites, either lakes, ponds or slow-moving rivers. All sites are in relatively low-elevation valleys. A new site for E. antennatum found within the city of Montpelier in 2008 suggests that this species may be more common than currently known. According to national distribution maps, the Connecticut River is the easternmost range for the species in the US (although it is found slightly farther east in Canada).
