The Clear-winged Grasshopper is found from the Pacific to the Atlantic, between around  41 degrees north latitude and south of the Arctic tundra.

It inhabits grassy pastures, typically meadow-like with relatively short grasses, and fairly moist, but not soggy.

The habitat may vary, depending upon the state: In Arizona they are usually found above 7,500 feet in mountain meadows, while in Idaho they are found almost exclusively in densely vegetated grasslands. (Nature Serve Explorer).
