Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

At approx. 6:30 p.m., a flock of Canada geese flew into Adamant pond. These were amongst hundreds of other Canada geese leaving and arriving at the pond, during my observation. In this particular flock, I noticed the distinctive pink legs of one of the geese, as it extended its legs downward, when landing on the surface of the pond. I then observed the goose through my spotting scope, while it remained on the pond. Using a field guide while on-site, I was able to narrow species down to pink-footed goose. I confirmed this with additional research back at home that evening.

Relative Size & Shape

Smaller in size and more compact in shape compared to Canada geese present on pond.

Feet & Bill

Feet pink. Bill dark at base and at tip with washed-out pink color in between.

IMPORTANT: What similar species were eliminated when making the identification and how was this bird different?

Graylag Goose: Much larger bill than Pink-footed Goose.
Tundra- and Taiga-Bean Goose: Both species have orange legs and feet.
Greater White-fronted Goose: Has orange legs and feet.
