Harvested corn field.

Walking through corn field.

Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

We saw a Crane while driving at the speed limit on the highway. I initially thought it was a Heron, before realizing it was a Sandhill Crane very shortly after. I pulled over and we all got out and looked at it.

Relative Size & Shape

Long legged, gray bodied bird with red head feathering and distinct gait.

Head

Red crown.

Upper Back

Gray.

IMPORTANT: What similar species were eliminated when making the identification and how was this bird different?

Heron was thrown out due to coloration. Other cranes are uncommon and weren't considered.
