Description of Habitat

Apple trees

Behaviors Observed

Landed on apple trees and going to ground feeding on fruit. Gave the bird plenty of space so it could feed. Just observed , no chasing .

Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

Our notes : feeding in our apple trees today , seen several times, raining so early pics a little blurry, larger beak and horn color, yellow orange overall appearance. Larger than scarlet tanagers we’ve seen.

Relative Size & Shape

Around 8” tall , tanager shape in appearance

Head

Crown darker, throat very yellow , dark loral-line ,

Feet & Bill

Long bill , antler bone in color, reddish color toward tip of beak from eating apples

Upper Back

Olive greenish yellow

Lower Back & Rump

Yellowish

Wings

Faint white fringes on wings , wings darker

Breast, Belly, Flanks, Under Tail Coverts

Breast yellow, a little orange wash
Under tail covert stronger yellow

Tail

V notched tail, greenish overall with yellow fringe around outer edges of tail
