Was my first for Vermont but have seen a few elsewhere in the SE.

Description of Habitat

Deciduous woodland along stream. Have been recorded just south of here in Massachusetts.

Behaviors Observed

Mostly just sat in the same area singing.

Description of Vocalizations

First located by pee-tsup call which it repeated a number of times while we were there.

Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

Bird was found the day before by Doug Kibbe and I joined him today. Bird was still in the same area and we located it by its song. The bird didn't move around much while we were there so got good looks of it perching & singing. Observed a greenish backed flycatcher with two white wingbars, yellowish eyering, light gray chest, light yellow belly and long sloping forehead. Two toned bill with lighter lower mandible.

Relative Size & Shape

Similar to other Empidonax species

Long sloping forehead

Feet & Bill

Large two toned. Lower mandible lighter.

Upper Back

Greenish.

Breast, Belly, Flanks, Under Tail Coverts

Two whitish wingbars

Yellow bellied by lighter / not yellow throat and larger bill. Other Empidonax species by yellow eye-ring, bill size
