Description of Habitat

Mixed hardwoods with groves of pines and some open fields along the road.

Behaviors Observed

Bird was perched in pines and flew at my approach.

Description of Vocalizations

None

Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

As I was walking the hawk took flight from its perch in the pines. I had an unobstructed view as it flew
across my line of sight out of the trees across the field.

Small buteo on shape.

Head

Wings

Somewhat pointed wings that were light underneath with dark border.

Breast, Belly, Flanks, Under Tail Coverts

Fairly light underside

Tail had broad dark bands, tail was slightly fanned.

Red-shouldered hawk as it has checkered underwings.
Red-tail hawk is larger and has its red tail or fine barring on tail for immatures.
