Description of Habitat

Rural setting; 1450-feet elevation; clearing w house and bird feeder on edge of lawn surrounded by young (< 10-years) succession of mixed forest grading to mixed fir and broadleaf. Many birds and species active at feeder attracting odd wandering birds. Water (headwater streams and pond within view). Large field within 150-yards.

emerging from low shrubbery, feeding on ground. hopping from place to place; sheltering below small balsam and weeds

habitat mixed forest; clearings; brush and young trees; black oil feeder attracts many birds. sparrow form, rusty cap, unstreaked light gray breast, black spot on chest, gray bands above and below eye

sparrow-size and shape: 4 to 5-inches beak to tail tip; bigger than chickadee; smaller than robin

rusty crown; round head; gray above and below stripe through eye

Bill: sparrow-beak (small, sharp pointed but not elongate)

brown and black feathers but not uniformly brown
