Observer’s Previous Acquaintance With This or Similar Species

Seen/heard/observed on Gulf of Mexico.

I certify that any attachments included with this report were captured during this observation event.
Description of Habitat

In White Pine stand within housing complex adjacent to golf course, Battenkill River and wooded area. No other bird song/calls were heard at that time. No other birds were seen at that time.

Behaviors Observed

From where I was, I could not see the bird.

Description of Vocalizations

A two-parted, nasally call: “Caw-aw”. First part of call higher than second. A higher pitch call than American Crow, slightly more emphasis on first note.

Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

This was an incidental observation. I could not see the bird from my location and did not want to move to a better viewpoint and risk scaring it off. I was not prepared to make a drawing, and did not have binoculars. I made the observation by what I heard only.

IMPORTANT: What similar species were eliminated when making the identification and how was this bird different?

This identification was done by sound of call only. A similar species could have been an American Crow but the call of this bird was distinctly different.
