Description of Habitat

backyard feeders with adjacent dense woody area

bird was actively feeding on the ground.

Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

I was observing the various birds at the feeder and especially annoyed with a flock of house sparrows when I noted a different bird. I assumed it a tree sparrow until it faced me and saw no central breast mark.

reddish crown had fine black streaks, black eye, throat whitish ,nape gray.

Feet & Bill

bill cone shaped , flesh color lower mandible, dark upper.

brown undertones with black streaks

slight mark of a wing bar

breast & flanks uniformly gray under tail not seen.

Tail

tail long and notched.

IMPORTANT: What similar species were eliminated when making the identification and how was this bird different?

Tree sparrow as this bird seen had no central breast mark, crest was not plain reddish in color and the cheek was brownish.
