Description of Habitat

Brush/shrubs at edge of railroad tracks with close by frozen marsh, small flock of tree sparrows with it

Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

EBird notes made a few minutes after observation: "Pink bill, white eye ring, pale gray and rufous face/head stripes, clear breast"
The bird popped up from the back of a shrub and was in the top third of a shrub perching and well seen for about 45 seconds, several tree sparrows also in the shrubbery

IMPORTANT: What similar species were eliminated when making the identification and how was this bird different?

There was direct comparison with tree sparrows present in the same area of shrubbery. The black eye with white eye ring in a field of pale gray pretty well eliminates other sparrows
