Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

Adult Little Gull
Breeding plumage: black head and beak; under-wing fully blackish, except for white trailing edge and tip. [added: no upper-wing white flash, of course] A very close view, nearly filling the 122mm objective lens at 42 power. Little Gull immediately followed by one adult Bonaparte's Gull and one 1st-winter Bonaparte's Gull.

Bonaparte's Gull 07:55-08:55
Number observed: X
Comments: wild guess of 3-5 dozen (or twice as many), including one 1st winter bird; gulls swirling around too much to count; a general northward movement.

IMPORTANT: What similar species were eliminated when making the identification and how was this bird different?

Unique. Under-wing fully blackish, except for white trailing edge and tip.
Unlike partial black under-wing of Black-headed Gull. No white upper wing flash.

Other Notes & Comments

Note the multiple records in the Richelieu and Montreal areas
after zeroing in on the map.
Same as during fall migration, Little Gulls seem to be regular
Spring migrants through the Hudson/Champlain/Richelieu corridor,
not really qualifying as an "out-of-season" species during Spring.
