Verbal Narrative & Description of Observation

outside in yard, purple finches, chickadees, cardinals, goldfinches all singing. I heard a raspy fee bee and immediately recognized it as a phoebe. Seemed very early though so I stuck around waiting hopefully to hear it again. And it continued for at least 15 to 20 minutes with occasional raspy fee bee songs/calls. Tried to locate it visually but he was singing near the neighbors house and I didn't want to skulk around her home! But the song is unmistakable. The only other bird a phoebe is ever confused with is the chickadee which does not have a raspy song/call and in fact, has a 2 or 3 note song.

IMPORTANT: What similar species were eliminated when making the identification and how was this bird different?

black-capped chickadee - has a 2 or 3 note song that is a clear, pure sound without any harsh or raspy notes. I am well aware of the distinctions between a phoebe and a chickadee's song.
